Living our best life in Mallorca!

Family blog: After so much great sightseeing this summer, our week relaxing and hanging out in Mallorca was perfect! We met the Dossanis and Han-Urys in Port d’Andratx, a beautiful seaside town on the west coast of Mallorca! The house was our favorite one so far; with a pool, beautiful views of the mountains and water, and a nice layout for spending time together.

We spent the week relaxing with great friends by the pool, visiting beaches and cute towns around the island, eating long and lovely meals late into the night, doing a bit of shopping and drinking lots of wine (and the kids first cokes). We've been talking about a Mallorca reunion ever since. Simone says that “it was so special to spend the week with dear friends and to see our kids become friends of their own.”

Some of the highlights were:

- Boating in the Mediterranean. The dads crazily drove their own boat while the kids got to captain the larger boat. We jumped into the ocean to snorkel, paddle board and dive off a board at a couple of stops and enjoyed snacks in the ocean

- Fun times by the house pool, including hours spent trying to ride/conquer Fred, a giant inflatable dolphin floatie and our mascot for the week

- An afternoon at a small beach on a paddle boat with a slide that provided lots of adult and kid fun

- A fun day at Gran Follies beach club, and then Kiera enjoyed a luxurious day with the Dossanis at Nikki Beach - lounging in the club and dining on sushi, pasta and lava cakes

- Two amazing meals prepared by Chefs Ury and Brody, and many yummy meals at great local restaurants

- Eating at a waterside café called Cappuccino multiple times

- Visiting various towns on the island - Palma, Valldemossa, Camp de Mar, Campino

- On the last night we had a big party; a chef cooked for us at home and we played Celebrity!

- We watched a movie called Wedding Season and saw a lot of Barbie.

With the Dossanis (who are professionals at music-video making) and Han-Urys, we made a music video of our trip to the song, “You Belong with Me.” It’s on YouTube. Making a music video with the Dossanis was arriving as music video artists for us after finding inspiration from their work for years. (SEE VIDEO)

I (Kiera) lost two teeth in Mallorca; one on the second night in Campino, an Italian restaurant and the other two mornings later in bed.

This paragraph’s Mike. I’d spent years talking food prep with Dan, and then got practice on my own during the pandemic doing various things to meat from slow cooks (sous vide) to grilling. I was pumped to team up with him to dry out and slow cook on a low heat some awesome cuts of meat before adding the char from searing on the grill. I may have poorly communicated to Dan what my expectations with the butter were while also underestimating how dry the air was and the steaks were after the slow cook . . . anyway, one of the world’s greatest ballets now includes something we all came to call, “Platter, Platter, Platter, Platter.” The only video evidence of the near wild fire was at the end of that music video.

We stayed for a bonus day. The Han-Urys had extended their trip, so they came by to hang out and eat dinner. This area is a small peninsula with one large strip to the best beach area and a restaurant vibe reminiscent of Santa Monica on the other. It was cool to see another part of Mallorca.
